1. Who is responsible for your information?

2. What information might we collect?

Depending on what you do on the site, this can include your name, email address, postal and delivery address for physical orders, order details, digital product purchased, Stripe payment/session references, a secure download-access token, basic download records, messages and customer-service correspondence, refund or delivery information, and basic technical or security information generated by the website or hosting service.

Direct website payments are processed through Stripe. Stripe handles the payment-card information needed to process the transaction; Average Man Workbooks does not receive or store your full card number or card security code.

3. Why do we use it and what is our lawful basis?

• Orders and customer service: to take an order, deliver it, communicate about it and deal with returns or refunds. The main basis is performance of a contract or steps requested before entering one.
• Tax, accounting and legal records: to comply with legal obligations.
• Site security and ordinary business administration: where necessary for our legitimate interests in operating and protecting the business and website, balanced against your rights.
• Marketing: only where permitted under applicable electronic-marketing rules. Where consent is required, consent will be the basis and you can withdraw it.
• Non-essential cookies or tracking: consent will be obtained where required before they are used.

4. Information we do not ask you to send

This is a publishing and customer-service website, not a clinical service. Please do not send detailed health information, probation or criminal-case information, or other highly sensitive personal information through the contact route. If unnecessary sensitive information is sent, we will minimise its use and remove it when there is no reason to retain it.

5. Who might receive information?

Information may be shared only where needed with providers that help us run the business. The main providers currently include Netlify for website hosting and private order/entitlement data, IONOS for business and transactional email, Stripe for payment processing and Royal Mail for physical delivery. Paid direct-order details needed for fulfilment (such as name, email, delivery address, order amount and fulfilment status) may be copied automatically from Stripe into a password-protected Average Man Workbooks order dashboard hosted on Netlify. This avoids manual re-entry and helps prevent fulfilment mistakes. We may also use professional advisers or disclose information to authorities where the law requires it. We do not sell customer personal information.

Some providers may process information outside the UK. Where this happens, the provider is responsible for using an appropriate lawful transfer mechanism and safeguards under its own service terms and privacy arrangements.

6. How long do we keep it?

Ordinary enquiries that do not become an order or ongoing issue will normally be kept for no longer than 12 months unless there is a reason to retain them longer. Order, sales and accounting records are kept for the period required for tax and legal record-keeping; for a UK sole trader this will normally mean at least five years after the 31 January filing deadline for the relevant tax year. Records connected with a dispute, refund or legal claim may be kept longer where reasonably necessary.

If a marketing list is introduced, marketing contact details will be kept until you unsubscribe or they are no longer needed. A minimal suppression record may be kept so we can respect an opt-out.

7. Cookies, secure access and basic measurement

The site does not intentionally use advertising trackers. Strictly necessary technology is used to provide services you request, including secure Stripe Checkout and private download access.

For the digital toolkit shop, the site also keeps simple first-party aggregate counts such as toolkit-page views, checkout starts, purchases and download actions. These counts are designed to answer basic commercial questions without creating a behavioural advertising profile and do not intentionally store a cross-site identifier. If non-essential cookie-based analytics or advertising technology is added later, the site will explain it and obtain consent where required before it is used.

8. Your data-protection rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law may give you rights to access personal information, correct it, ask for erasure or restriction, object to certain processing, receive certain information in a portable form and withdraw consent where processing relies on consent. These rights can have legal limits.

If you think your information has been handled incorrectly, please contact us first so we can look into it. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office.
